Breaking Through Opposition

I posted this blog post quite a while ago, I feel it is appropriate to share again. Hope this serves you!

break•through: 1 : an offensive thrust that penetrates and carries beyond a defensive line in warfare 2 : an act or instance of breaking through an obstacle. 3 a : a sudden advance especially in knowledge or technique b : a person's first notable success.

Pilots who flew in the earlier days of aviation would encounter great amounts of turbulence while flying at excessive speeds. The invisible "Devils Wall" had already killed several other pilots before 24 year old  Chuck Yeager pushed past the wall. The young pilot ignored the great destructive forces beating away at his craft and slammed the throttle forward!  He literally punched his way through the previously impenetrable barrier.

Afterwards he reported on the other side, that the flight returned to its routine smoothness.

Points to Ponder
What invisible barriers are pushing against your dream, vision, plan or purpose?  Will you allow it to stop you dead in your tracks? Will you let it kill your dream, demolish your plans? Murder your purpose? or will you push past the borders of normalcy and enter into notable success?

Put it in Action
Take some time today and think back to something you may have encountered in your business or organzation that seem impossible to you.
  1. Write down the thing(s) you recognize that are hindrances to you moving forward.
  2. Beside each item write. "We can and will do this" next to it.
  3. Begin to visualize yourself accomplishing those things.
  4. Start speaking to others about how you will meet your goal.
  5. Find others who have already done what you are looking to accomplish and begin to surround yourself with people who are positive thinkers with a spirit of excellence.
  6. Identify, suckers (time wasters and negative people) and sowers(positive people who add value to your life) and remove immediately.
  7. Commit to do what's important to you FIRST.  Do what is necessary everyday to see this goal accomplished without excuses.
  8. Pay it forward! Adopt an abundance mindset, offer value to the lives of others.  Sow seeds of kindness, honor and respect.  It will come back to you multiplied!
 Let's finish 2014 strong!

Google Places Update

Business owners have reported on the Google Business Help forums that they are getting emails from Google with the subject line: “Action Required: You have 3 weeks to save your Google Places Listing.” This information was first reported by Barry Schwartz of Search Engine Roundtable.
The body of the email reads as follows:
Hello,
Due to changes in Google Maps, we’d like to inform you that unless you review and confirm the information in your Google Places account, we will no longer be able to keep and show it to Google users after February 21, 2014.
If you wish to keep your listing active, follow these three easy steps:
1.        Log in to your Google Places account
2.        Review and update your information
3.        Click the “Submit” button
Sincerely,
The Google Places Team
Jade Wang, Google Business Community Manager, has confirmed that this is a legitimate email Google is sending out saying Google is making some changes to Google Places for Business and Google Maps. Part of these changes involve asking business owners to review and confirm some of the information in their Google Places accounts. Jade also apologizes for any inconvenience this causes.
If you have a Google Places listing but did not receive this email, it doesn’t necessarily mean you weren’t affected. The email may have been automatically trashed by the spam filter of your inbox, so you may want to manually check to make sure so you can avoid your Places listing becoming de-listed.
In order to manually check, just log into Places for Business and take a look at your business information. Go through it and update it if necessary, then click “Submit.” You’ll need to do this for all listings in your account by February 21, 2014, to ensure they remain on Google Maps. If you don’t, you’ll need to add your business information and undergo the tedious PIN verification using Google Places all over again.
Editor’s Note: This post has been amended to include the source of the first report.

"Money down the Drain"

It amazes me at the lengths people will go to get information on how to do something and spend absolutely no time 'applying' the information received.

As a marketing consultant, I am constantly being called upon to provide strategy regarding business. It would amaze you to know that not everyone that employs our company actually takes our advice and counsel.

A former clients comes to mind. They were afraid of doing anything that took them outside of their comfort zone. No matter how many times I would try to assist them, they always ends up reverting back to doing what's familiar and comfortable. The company has blown through hundreds of thousands of dollars, doing the same thing over and over again, failing to adhere to the wisdom that was given. They allowed fear to keep them bound to the mediocre and mundane. Although the money was good, I had to bow out and let them do what made them happy.

Have you ever had to push yourself past your comfort zone in business? What advice can you give to business owners who are leery of moving forward?

'....fools despise wisdom and instruction'. Proverbs 1:7b

"Just Do.....!"

Many of you can complete the simple phrase with the word "it". Whatever your ‘it’ may be, the iconic phrase has been on the lips of many for years. Just do it.

As quiet as it is kept, many entrepreneurs have been doing just that. They have been doing things that don't line up with their core values and objectives. No matter what the cost, they allow frustration and worry set them off into a panic of just doing anything.

Here are a few simple things you can do right now, that will help you find your center and keep it growing from there.

1. Know Your Why - Remember what catapulted you into business in the first place. The reason why you do what you do. Get back to the fundamentals of how you made the decision to be in the market place. Was it to help others solve their problems, make money to pay off bills, to live a lifestyle of comfort and freedom? Whatever the reason, keep it at the forefront of what you do.

2. Remain Focused - I can't tell you how many times my clients come to me with a new fangled way of doing something. One of my marketing mentors calls it the shiny object syndrome. Always trying something new and improved without proving that the old and reliable is all you needed in the first place. Stay focused on the basics. Remember you are not in a get rich quick scheme. This is your business, and it will take you taking the adequate time to learn what works for the group of clients you serve.

3. Get Global - When speaking of global, people think about the planet. Your business is the atmosphere you create. Make sure that everyone is speaking the same thing. Employees should know the core values and focus of the company. Customer Service, order fulfillment, products and services should be consistent across the board. Quickly address lapses and or problems that occur to make sure everyone is on the same page.

4. Offer What They 'Want' not 'Need' - I once asked one of my clients who her ideal client was. Her response was everybody! Although I could see her passion and enthusiasm, the truth is that not everyone wanted her product. They may have "needed" the financial services she offered, but the fact of the matter was that not everyone "wanted" it. There are people that will purchase a flat screen plasma television and they are in foreclosure. People will buy what they want and not necessarily need.

5. Target your Ideal Clients. Out of the clients you serve that raise their hands to say yes, I want what you have to offer, who among them are hyper sensitive to your products or service? Those are the individuals you want to pay special attention to. Get to know your clients, look among them and select the ones that are ideal to work with and for. What are their likes, dislikes? Where do they shop, play or live? Knowing these things will help you attract more ideal clients.
